Initial situation

Uganda has been offering "Free Primary Education" since 1998. The school enrollment rate has risen to 113% according to Unesco (2000). This boom unfortunately only affects children of the appropriate primary school age and in rural and in rural Uganda only those children who are tall enough to walk the long distance to school. Approximately 70% of Muyogo's population is illiterate. For the past 10 years children as young as 10 years old have been attending elementary school 8 km away. There is no kindergarten in this area. There is no secondary school. After elementary school (7 years), the young people (mostly boys), if they have not dropped out of school earlier, leave the villages in order to get jobs in the cities. This means that this area, although there has been little war or political unrest in the last 30 years, this area is one of the poorest in the country. There are kindergartens in the town of Ntungamo, but the district headquarters does not provide early childhood education in Muyogo or in neighboring districts. In the last few years, microfinance projects have been implemented been implemented that have improved the quality of life. A construction of the class buildings could be done within a year, nevertheless one should expect a price increase, because of the Ugandan shilling fluctuation, which has become unstable due to the presidential elections in 2016. Since the election was held in March 2016, this should not be a long-term risk.

Target

The goal of the project is to provide at least 400 children, adolescents and adults annually to be able to provide access to education. The project will initially require two rooms for preschool children and the and the first two years of elementary school, so that the children can start school on time. These rooms will be used in the afternoon for Adult education (youth and adults).

Measures

Two buildings with six classrooms are to be built, including a teachers' room and an administration room. In addition, four toilets are needed. Approximately 120 children will have the opportunity to attend the kindergarten for two years. Approximately 220 will attend elementary school for the first two years. visit. In the afternoons, education and training will be offered to 200 youths and adults will be offered.

The programs offered are: Basic Education (reading, writing); basic management skills, gastronomy, handicrafts, sports and environmentally friendly agriculture.
