One · Who we are · Dortmund, since 2014

Hello, we are VKII Ruhrbezirk e.V.

The Association of Cameroonian Engineers and Computer Scientists, Ruhrbezirk e.V. is a group formed in 2014 by international Black students from TU Dortmund. VKII Ruhrbezirk has been focusing on empowerment programs in the Ruhr area. Additionally, VKII has been involved in various projects in Africa, with a strong emphasis on technical innovations and school construction.

VKII is a community-based association that supports education, research, students, and graduates. It also spearheads projects aimed at empowering African/African diaspora/BIPOC and marginalized groups, including refugees, those with migration backgrounds, and a diverse range of intersectional individuals and communities. This support extends to various aspects of life, including school, training, college, and work.

Five · Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Why Cameroonian engineers and computer scientists, Cameroonians only?

Originally, VKII Ruhrbezirk aimed to align with the founding vision of the federal association VKII, established in Frankfurt in 2000 — providing a support network for the Cameroonian diaspora in the German university context. The association has continuously evolved since, and today its work reaches the wider African diaspora, BIPOC and marginalized communities.

Why children and young people?

Child and youth work has become an increasingly significant part of VKII Ruhrbezirk's activities in recent years — as members started families, and as people with Afro-diasporic backgrounds sought and found VKII Ruhrbezirk as a safe(r) space.

Why a safe(r) space?

A safe(r) space for Black individuals — children, youth, adults and older adults alike — is a welcoming, inclusive environment that fosters belonging and community for people of African or Afro-diasporic backgrounds, and recognizes and respects their diverse identities and experiences.

Can I, as a White person, get involved in your association work?

Yes, you are more than welcome! If programs or events are designated as BIPOC-only spaces, we will provide information about that.
